Background Knowledge On Wine

My personal experiences with wine are limited. They include trying different types of red and white wine on airplanes, family dinners and occasionally with friends. Airplanes, usually have a limited selection of wine. I read the label and remember distinctly that there was wine from Chile. That caught my attention, because I did not realize that Chile produces wine.
I prefer sweeter wines. I enjoy white wine that is light and fruity. I also enjoy some red wines like Port wine or red wine mixed with dark chocolate. You can smell the chocolate while drinking the wine and it has a different effect on your tastes while drinking it. Usually, I drink these wines on its own with friends or family. I have never mixed wine with food.

This semester, I would really like to learn about food and wine pairings. I am interested to see how food and wine pairings effect the taste of the wine. I am looking forward to broadening my wine knowledge, and being able to taste a variety of different wines. My hope is that by the end of the semester, I will be able to look at a wine bottle and know what to expect in terms of taste, and what to pair it with.
