Tasting- simply Naked Cabernet Sauvignon

Name:  Simply Naked
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: ?
Country: California
Year: 2011
Price: $10

Winery Review: Simply Naked Cabernet Sauvignon has plum, black cherry and cinnamon spice with chewy tannins that don't weigh down the wine. Medium-full bodied.

Serve with:

  • grilled or roasted red meats,
  • tomato-based pasta dishes,
  • and hard cheeses.

Personal Review: on the nose I get: dark fruits and a sweet cassis jam flavor. When I taste it I get the smell of graphite. The mid Pallate is very dry and I get the taste of dried cranberries. The wine is a medium body. The finish is of spices and wood. I enjoy this wine because there is less if an oaky component to it. There is a hint of oaky-ness. However, I does not over power the wine. I did not pair this wine with food. Overall, it was okay. It may have been a little to earthy for me. I would like to try it again, before I decide that I do not like it.

Tasting- Charles Shaw Sauvignon Blanc

Name:  Charles Shaw
Variety:
Sauvignon Blanc
Region: ?
Country: California
Year: 2012
Price: $3.29
Wineary Review:cellar tracker: Mike Kopanski rated 86 points: This is the best 2 Buck Chuck Sauvignon Blanc yet. The several 2011's we tried had an artificiality with both the nose and the fruit flavors. This 2012 offering has a precise delineation of flavors combined with a very close to dry crispness, that belies it's almost ridiculous price point. The color is a Chardonnay like rich golden. The nose is surprisingly Old World with shale infused, spiced, honey. The fruit is very peachy with apricot and brown spice. I think the acid may have been poured out of a 50# bag. Dry lemon and peach finish. I realize that 2 Buck Chuck comes from a different batch almost every day. I'm just glad to have had the chance to taste one of their better batches.

Personal Review: Again, very impressed with this wine. It is a great price and taste. It is perfect for the novice wine drinker. The wine was a very light color. It was a little darker than water but still not a pale yellow. On the nose I got Lemon
Other Citrus, and hints of Orange peel. It also had a Flowery and Sweet component to it. The Mid Pallate was a little harsh. However, it had a Lemony fresh finish that I really enjoyed. The alcohol really cut through the flavors. There was not much integration between the two. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this wine! Again, you cannot beat the price!  I did not pair it with food, I would be interested to try it again!
